Former Prep Stars Huffman, Simons Bring Camp to Cadillac

CADILLAC – Former Petoskey prep star Trevor Huffman was at Mackinaw Trail Middle School Friday afternoon for his Huffman Basketball Camp.

Huffman was joined by former Cadillac star and current Spanish ACB League player Ben Simons at the camp. Both shared their years of collegiate and professional basketball knowledge with area campers.

“Trevor and myself have played a lot of basketball in a lot of different places and learned a lot of different things,” Simons said. “It’s nice to take the knowledge we’ve gained over time and bring it back and just help out the kids of our communities.”

Huffman will soon make the transition from player to coach as he takes the reins of Okapi Aalstar of the top tier Pro Basketball League of Belgium. Even though Huffman has spent s majority of his professional career overseas, he has a strong passion for working with northern Michigan youth.

“Working with kids in northern Michigan has always been a goal of mine and a passion,” he said. “The more kids I see, I feel like the better I get at coaching, working with them and trying to motivate. And get them on the right track.”
