Jeff Roth Claims Michigan PGA Tournament of Champions Title

BOYNE FALLS – Jeff Roth carded a 3-under 69 to capture his sixth Michigan PGA Tournament of Champions at Boyne Mountain’s Alpine Course on Wednesday.

Entering the third and final round tied atop the leaderboard with 2015 champion Barrett Kelpin, Roth edged out the Kalamazoo native by one stroke to finish the tournament at 11-under. Traverse City Golf and Country Club PGA Professional and 2009 winner Scott Hebert finished tied in third with Michael Nagy at 6-under. Nagy fired a 7-under 65 on Wednesday.

“If I was going to win a tournament in the state of mind that I was at in the last month, this would’ve been the tournament to win,” Roth said. “It just seems to kinda calm me down, and I really stayed on top of my focus and mental game this week.”

Roth, a Boyne Golf Academy instructor, won the first Tournament of Champions title in 1995 and last won in 2012.

Henry Do of Auburn Hills was the top amateur, finishing alone in fifth at 5-under.

Former Michigan Women’s Open champion Suzy Green-Roebuck was the top female finisher, tying for seventh at 3-under after shooting a 1-under round on Wednesday, while 2019 Michigan Open champion Eric Lilleboe finished tied in 13th at even.

Traverse City native and recently turned professional Alex Scott ended his tournament tied at 22nd at 2-over.
