Ludington’s McCarthy Heading To Russia

LUDINGTON – After three seasons in the North American Hockey League, Ludington native Austin McCarthy is preparing for his next big challenge.

McCarthy was invited to be a part of an All-Star team representing the league at an international junior hockey competition in Russia in August. He is the only representative for the Topeka Pilots.

He’ll be one of the more veteran players on the team.

“They can only have five ’99s on this upcoming team,” said McCarthy. “So, I knew it was a possibility, but you know maybe not the best odds, since they only could take five ’99s. So, it’s even more of an honor for me, to be a part of that small group of ’99s in a big league like that. So, it’s really cool. It’s going to be a really different experience for me, but that’s why I’m excited to see what Europe’s like, and check it out.”

The NAHL team’s first game is against a Moscow junior team on August 19.
