Traverse City’s Scott Wilson Honored by PGA of America

TRAVERSE CITY – Bay Meadows Golf Course PGA Golf Professional Scott Wilson was recently honored by the PGA of America with its 2019 PGA Youth Player Development Award.

The national award is handed out annually by the PGA of America to a PGA Golf Professional “who has displayed extraordinary and exemplary contribution and achievement in the area of youth player development.”

Regarded as one of the best junior golf instructors in Michigan, Wilson has nearly 100 kids participating in the PGA Jr. League at Bay Meadows this summer and has instructed 40 junior golfers who have gone on to play collegiately. Nine of Wilson’s golfers have won MHSAA individual state championships and three Miss Golf titles. He has also twice sent a student to the national finals of the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship at Augusta National.

“I get a little emotional with this stuff,” Wilson said. “My name is on this award, but this is for Traverse City. This is a community effort, and I’m so proud to have my name associated with our area on a national scale.”

Wilson’s PGA Jr. League teams have finished runner-up at the state championships each of the last two years.
