Bear Lake Enters Year 3 on the Gridiron

BEAR LAKE – Bear Lake is entering its third year as a football program and a member of the 8-player West Michigan D League.

The Lakers have gone through their fair share of growing pains over the last two years, having gone a combined 4-14.

“Every year, we raise the expectations,” Bear Lake coach John Prokes said. “We expect to improve not only throughout the season, but year to year. That’s our goal going into it. You can just do the best you can to work towards that.”

As it begins its third season, Bear Lake’s confidence is growing as players become more comfortable on the gridiron.

“This team is really kind of a jack of all trades,” Bear Lake senior Andre Brown said. “We have just about everything. Maybe, if anything, we can have a little more size, but other than that, I think we’re pretty good.”

Bear Lake opens its season at Suttons Bay on Thursday, Aug. 29.
