Camilletti Lifts Pit Spitters to Playoff Series Win Over Kalamazoo Growlers
TRAVERSE CITY – Mario Camilletti’s one out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Traverse City Pit Spitters to a playoff-series clinching win with a 5-4 victory over the Kalamazoo Growlers at Pit Spitters Park on Tuesday.
Camilletti came to the plate in the ninth with runners on first and second and singled to right field, driving home Daniel Head. Camilletti led the way at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two RBI and a walk.
Joe Pace earned the win in relief, striking out all three batters he faced in the ninth.
Kalamazoo outhit Traverse City 13-9 as Eamon Horwedel was saddled with the loss after allowing a run on one hit while fanning three and walking two in the final two innings.
The Pit Spitters opened the best-of-three series with an 8-1 win over the Growlers in Kalamazoo on Monday.
Leading 1-0 through 4 1/2 innings of Tuesday’s contest, Traverse City pushed three runs across the plate in the fifth and led 4-3 through seven innings. Kalamazoo tied the game in the eighth on Shea Kramer’s RBI single to first.
The Pit Spitters will now host the Madison Mallards on Wednesday in a one-game divisional championship round. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
