Forest Area Moves to the Spread in 2019

FIFE LAKE – With a smaller roster, a veteran and speedy Forest Area squad is making the move to the spread offense this fall.

The Warriors reached the playoffs last season for the second time at the 8-player level and fourth time in school history. Forest Area dropped its final three regular season games but earned a postseason bid despite going 4-5.

“This year we have more speed and more skill-type guys, so we decided to make switch,” Forest Area coach Brian Mumby said. “Definitely 8-man, there’s more space. One thing you can’t coach in 8-man is speed and we have quite a bit of it.”

“We don’t have enough big lineman to do a power set at all,” added Forest Area senior Chase Ingersoll. “We have three really good lineman, so we should be able to use those three to our advantage.”

Forest Area opens its season at home against Brethren on Friday, Aug. 30. The Warriors won last year’s meeting 38-24.
