Fremont Looking to Turn the Tide

FREMONT – After ending the area’s longest losing streak a year ago, Fremont is back on the practice field.

The Packers entered their 2018 season have lost 27 consecutive games and extended that streak to 30 until a 26-12 victory over Central Montcalm in Week 4.

“Breaking that streak, getting that off our back is great,” Fremont senior Kyler Kolk said. “We just need to keep working hard. Putting back into the system. Really believing in it.”

Fremont found itself in several close games last year, falling in three times by 11 points or less.

“Last year, we did have a lot of close games,” Fremont coach Rick Tank said. “Again, a lot of them were decided in the fourth quarter. We couldn’t hang out and/or didn’t have mental resilience. This group, I have a feeling, has built that from last year throughout the offseason and working it into this year.”

Six of Fremont’s nine opponents this year were 2018 playoff teams, including the first three on its schedule.

Fremont opens its season at home against Ludington on Thursday, Aug. 29. The two teams last met in 2015 with Ludington winning 57-26.
