Jarstfer Takes Over Coaching Reins at Gladwin

GLADWIN – Gladwin is set to begin a new era this fall as Marc Jarstfer takes over the coaching reins.

Jarstfer comes to Gladwin after serving as an assistant coach at Jack Pine Conference rival Clare and brings with him an offensive scheme that he feels will suit the Flying G’s personnel as Gladwin returns more than half of its offensive line.

“We’re installing a new offense and a new defense,” Jarstfer said. “Practices are quite a bit different than they were over the last couple of years. Luckily for us, this group of seniors has run the option before, I mean the terminology is a little bit different, but a lot of the reads are the same, so that’s been beneficial for that group, and they’ve picked up pretty quick.”

The first few weeks of the season will be important for Gladwin as the team works to build a foundation around the new playbooks.

“Just studying the plays,” Gladwin senior Dillon Kroening said. “I mean, just get the plays down and we’ll be hard to beat, with the athletes that we have. Just study the plays, and if we get the plays down, we’re tough to beat.”

Gladwin opens its season at Ogemaw Heights on Thursday, Aug. 29. The Flying G’s won last year’s meeting 29-18.
