Jess Returns to Lead Charlevoix Program
CHARLEVOIX – After recording just a single win a season ago, a familiar face is returning to take over Charlevoix’s program.
Former coach Don Jess is returning to the Charlevoix sideline after spending time coaching at the youth levels.
Jess has coached many of the current players on the varsity squad when they were younger and he likes the work ethic and veteran leadership he has received from his nine seniors.
With an experienced quarterback and running back tandem, the Rayders are looking to be more dynamic on offense in 2019.
“We’ll be pretty balanced on offense,” Jess said. “We can come at you from a lot of different ways. I like where we’re at right now, offensively. But, time will tell, once we get into games.”
“We’re really pushing our boundaries, and what we can do as a team, and he’s just phenomenal,” added Charlevoix senior Jake Snyder. “He’s bringing in a new offense and defense, and we feel real confident with it.”
Charlevoix opens its season at home against Elk Rapids on Thursday, Aug. 29. Elk Rapids won last year’s meeting 21-6.
