McBain Seeks 3rd Straight Playoff Bid in 2019
MCBAIN – With consecutive playoff appearances to its credit and seven since 2009, McBain has established itself as one of the top programs in the Highland Conference.
The one goal that has proven elusive over the last two seasons has been a victory over rival Lake City. The Trojans have won back-to-back Highland championships and are riding an 18-game regular-season streak as 2019 commences.
“We’ve lost six games in two years and four to Lake City, so our guys definitely know that they’re on the hit chart and we just got to play better against them,” McBain coach Pat Maloney said.
The Ramblers graduated a talented group of seniors from a team that went 8-3 and played for a Division 7 district championship a year ago.
As McBain works to fill several key positions vacated by seniors, it already has its Sept. 20 meeting with Lake City circled on the calendar.
“It would be huge,” McBain junior Daniel Rodenbaugh said. “I know these seniors this year they really want that because it’s been a while since we beat them. We really need that this year. It would be huge for our success and it’d just be awesome to beat them.”
McBain opens its season on the road at Kingsley on Thursday, Aug. 29.
