Pickford Eyes Return to State Finals

PICKFORD – After reaching the state finals for the first time in program history last year, Pickford is hungry for more in 2019.

The Panthers return all but two players from last year’s top-ranked squad that went 12-1 and reached the MHSAA 8-player Division 1 state finals.

Pickford has 33-4 over the last three seasons and reached the state semifinals in each of those years.

“I don’t think there’s any pressure,” Pickford coach Josh Rader said. “I know we like the fact that everyone’s going to give us their best game. We have a target on our backs. We’re just going to focus one game at a time. The end will take care of itself.”

“Just like last year, the energy is right up there, especially with losing the state championship last year,” added Pickford senior quarterback Jimmy Storey. “We want it bad, so the energy is up there.”

Pickford opens its season at home against 2017 state champion Crystal Falls Forest Park on Friday, Aug. 30. Pickford won last year’s meeting 38-20.
