Pit Spitters Prepare for First Northwoods League Championship
TRAVERSE CITY — It has already been a stellar season for the Traverse City Pit Spitters.
They broke the Northwoods League record for most consecutive wins, tied the record for wins in a season and advanced to their first League Championship game in their inaugural season.
On Friday night at home, they’ll look to put the cherry on top of this historic year by winning the title.
“It’s truly something I haven’t seen in a summer ball team before. I’m just blessed to be a part of it,” said Jake Wilson, who made a huge throw from center field to get the third out at home in the eighth inning and help secure the win on Wednesday. “All these guys that I’m surrounded by are great dudes. I’m just happy to be able to play alongside next to them.”
The Pit Spitters’ 3-2 victory over the Mallards secured a spot in the Northwoods League Championship against the Eau Claire Express.
Eau Claire won their first — and only — championship in 2010, but the Pit Spitters want to capture Traverse City’s first title for the fans.
“It’s fun to play in front of these people,” Pit Spitters pitcher Joe Pace said. “It’s a privilege to play as long as we have. We’re just really lucky that we do get to play Friday, and we want to give the city of Traverse City a win.”
The game starts at 7:05 p.m. at Pit Spitters Park.
