Sanford Meridian Ready to Get Back to Winning
SANFORD – After three consecutive losing campaigns, Sanford Meridian is itching to get back to winning.
The Mustangs, who are just four years removed from an undefeated regular season and outright Jack Pine Conference championship, saw a two-win improvement last year (4-5), with their three league losses coming to conference co-champions Clare, Roscommon and Beaverton.
“They work extremely hard and they’re a tough group of kids,” Sanford Meridian coach Mike Bilina said. “I’m just excited to give an opportunity to play some more football.”
Sanford Meridian is looking to return to the success it had where it posted 13 winning seasons and 12 playoff appearances from 2002-2015.
The Jack Pine will also have a different look this year with Pinconning and Shepherd replacing Roscommon and Houghton Lake which departed for the Highland Conference.
“I think we’re going to see a lot of hard-headed toughness,” Sanford Meridian senior Brady Solano said. “All of our guys are strong guys nobody that’s really going to be slacking on the team, everyone’s going to be 100% every week.”
Sanford Meridian opens its docket at Midland Bullock Creek on Thursday, Aug. 29.
