Shepard Takes Over St. Ignace’s Program
ST. IGNACE – The St. Ignace football program is under a direction this fall as Michael Shepard takes over.
The coaching transition has gone smoothly as Shepard was an assistant with the program prior to being promoted.
With a strong senior class leading the way, the Saints are looking to end a two-year postseason drought and reach the playoffs for the first time since making consecutive state semifinal appearances in 2015 and 2016.
“This year we have 12 new seniors, which has made it really easy for us to fill those positions,” Shepard said. “Also given us quite a few more options for those positions. But the group has been together a long time. They work very well together.”
“Our offense right now is looking a lot better than it has in the past couple years,” added St. Ignace senior Caleb Brown. “We have learned our plays. Put in new plays, but we’re catching on really quick.”
St. Ignace opens its season at home against Gladstone on Thursday. The Braves won last year’s meeting 26-14.
