TC Central Replacing Talented Senior Class
TRAVERSE CITY – With five consecutive playoff appearances, two Big North Conference championships and a district title to its credit since 2014, Traverse City Central prepares to begin its fifth season under coach Eric Schugars.
The Trojans are tasked with replacing a talented senior class that went 33-10 over four years and posted back-to-back nine wins campaigns and league championships in 2015 and 2016.
“A three-year starter is gone, so then you replace,” Schugars said. “Then you look at the skill set on your next guy, and we’ve got two guys with different skill sets, and you know, we’re going to call plays that’s going to fit their skill set, and put our offense in the best position to be successful.”
Central’s schedule features six 2018 playoff teams including non-conference dates with state power DeWitt, a rematch with South Lyon East and an Escanaba program that has won three straight district championships.
“I’ve been looking forward to it this whole winter and whole spring and I’m really excited that we’re out here,” Central senior Mitchell Stachnik said.
Central opens its season at home against 2018 Division 3 semifinalist DeWitt on Thursday, Aug. 29.
