Traverse City St. Francis Reloading in 2019
TRAVERSE CITY – As the 2019 high school football season commences, Traverse City St. Francis finds itself tasked with replacing 22 seniors.
The 2019 graduating class led the Gladiators to a 46-5 overall record, three Division 6 state semifinals and three regional championships while outscoring opponents a combined 1,980 to 439 over four years.
“Everybody just expects like us not to be that good because we lost 10 both way starters last year,” St. Francis senior Kolin Endres said. “I’m happy with what I’ve seen so far. They really stepped up and really stepped into roles that we need them to step into.”
Despite the graduation of so many key position players, coach Josh Sellers has been impressed with what he’s seen thus far a practice.
“We’re trying to evaluate some new faces in new places,” Sellers said. “Just trying to make sure everyone knows what they’re doing and where they’re going. And getting there when they’re supposed to be there. So it’s gone pretty well.”
St. Francis opens its season at home against Marquette on Friday, Aug. 30. The Gladiators also have non-conference contests at home against Glen Lake (Sept. 7) and at Muskegon Oakridge (Oct. 25) to close out the regular season.
