By the Numbers 2019: Week 5 in Review

From Luke Mikesell’s six-touchdown performance for Suttons Bay to an outstanding defensive effort by Pickford, Week 5 of the 2019 high school football season in northern Michigan saw plenty of great performances.

Minus 12 – Net yards rushing by Rudyard in a 42-0 loss to Pickford last Friday.
5 – Rushing touchdowns in three quarters by Luke Mikesell in 49-8 win over Brethren on Friday. Mikesell also returned a punt for a score. The game was called after three quarters due to severe weather in the area.
5 – Combined points scored in Clare’s 3-2 win over Sanford Meridian on Saturday. Originally scheduled for Friday night, the finish of the game was delayed until Saturday due to severe weather with just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation.
8 – Area 11-player teams can secure playoff bids with a win this weekend. Central Montcalm, Beal City, Beaverton, Clare, Glen Lake, Johannesburg-Lewiston, Kingsley and Mt. Pleasant all enter their Week 6 games at 5-0.
11 – Area 11 and 8-player teams are still undefeated. Central Montcalm, Beal City, Beaverton, Clare, Glen Lake, Johannesburg-Lewiston, Kingsley, Mt. Pleasant, Suttons Bay, Pellston and Gaylord St. Mary all enter their Week 6 games at 5-0.
40 – Yard interception returned for a touchdown by Traverse City Central’s Carson Bourdo in a 55-21 win over Gaylord on Saturday.
232 – Yards rushing by Onekama’s Aaron Powers in a 35-8 win over Maple Valley last Friday. Powers also tallied four touchdowns.
265 – Rushing yards by Coleman quarterback Tyler Germain in a 48-0 win over Burton Bentley last Friday. Germain rushed 30 times and had three touchdowns on the ground to go along with two through the air.
377 – Net team rushing yards by Pickford in a 42-0 shutout win over Rudyard last Friday.
1995 – The last time Pellston won five or more games in a season prior to this year. The Hornets improved to 5-0 with a 68-22 win over Atlanta last Friday.
2010 – The last time Suttons Bay started a season at 5-0. The Norsemen won their fifth game of the season last Friday with a 49-8 victory over visiting Brethren.
