Central Michigan Takes Down Akron in MAC Opener
MOUNT PLEASANT – It’s not the easiest thing to bounce back after a 61-0 loss the week before, but the Chippewas found a way.
The new-and-improved Central Michigan football team finally got their taste of MACtion on Saturday afternoon against Akron.
Halfway through the first quarter, CMU got on the board and they’d get 17 before the Zips would have an answer in the second quarter.
By halftime, the Chippewas lead 27-10.
Two second-stringers lead the way today, QB David Moore and RB Kobe Lewis. Moore threw for 316 yards and two touchdowns, while Lewis had 183 yards and three touchdowns.
The offense continued to perform well and the defense held their own as CMU went on to win 45-24.
This was the Chippewa’s first conference win since November 24, 2017, when they defeated NIU 31-24 at home.
Central Michigan moves to 1-0 in MAC play and 2-1 overall. They head to University of Miami (Fla.) on September 21.
