Ludington Rolls Over Rival Manistee

MANISTEE – Division 4 honorable mention Ludington cruised to 45-14 win over rival Manistee in the Lakes 8 Conference opener for both teams on Friday.

The Orioles (3-0, 1-0) held a 14-0 lead after the opening quarter and led 24-7 at the break en route to recapturing the Dad’s Trophy.

“If you told me before coming up here that we’d held them to 14, I would’ve been thrilled,” Ludington coach Charlie Gunsell said. “That offense is dangerous, they’re athletic. Our front seven played phenomenal. We were sharp. We talked to some of the coaches and they said that’s the sharpest we’ve been in quite some time.

“I don’t know if I’ve seen one like that I think he maybe had one incompletion probably threw for over 250 yards and rushed about 100. He just competes. He’s not the biggest or strongest kid but nobody competes like Riley Calhoun.”

Manistee (2-1, 0-1) hosts Muskegon Heights next Friday, while Ludington welcomes in Muskegon Catholic Central.
