Sacred Heart Alum Takes Over Cross Country Program

MT. PLEASANT – Skylar Nelson recently took over the Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart Academy cross country team.

Nelson graduated from Sacred Heart, where she ran cross country, and is thrilled to return to her alma mater.

She is already familiar with many of the runners because she has coached the Irish in track and field for three years.

Nelson knows the championship mentality at Sacred Heart, which includes four straight Division 4 titles for the girls team, and she is excited to continue the winning mentality.

“Mark Zitzelsberger was my coach when I ran cross country and he kind of left a legacy behind and last year was his last year coaching, so they were really looking for somebody who could take over but still keep the legacy alive and I would love to help continue that legacy,” said Nelson.

Both the boys and girls teams at Sacred Heart finished in first place at the Beal City Invitational Tuesday.
