TC Central Shuts Out TC West in TC Patriot Game

TRAVERSE CITY – Division 2 honorable mention Traverse City Central shut out rival and Division 1 No. 10 Traverse City West 32-0 in the annual TC Patriot Game at Thirlby Field on Friday.

The Trojans (3-1, 1-0) brought a 3-0 lead to the second quarter and extended their lead to 15-0 by the half.

“I’m just extremely proud of our men, our young men and our staff,” Central coach Eric Schugars said. “We played a phenomenal game you know. I thought we had big play capability but then our defense just stepped up the way they did and we took advantage of every situation and I couldn’t be prouder, I’m just elated this is awesome for our guys. Everybody on our team helped us win tonight because of what we did in practice this week and that was the challenge.”

The shutout is just the second in the Central-West series and first since West’s 31-0 victory in 2002.

Central hosts Gaylord next Saturday afternoon, while West (2-2, 0-1) welcomes in Alpena.
