TC West Tops Grand Haven for Coast Guard Cup

TRAVERSE CITY – Traverse City West reclaimed the Coast Guard Cup with a 19-7 non-conference win over visiting Grand Haven at Thirlby Field on Friday.

The Titans (1-0) trailed 7-0 after the opening quarter after Grand Haven scored in the opening 16 seconds, but scored twice in the second quarter to take a 13-7 lead at the half.

“They don’t get hit too many times without having an answer to it, so I think after that first play they definitely came back and I think they only had a couple first downs after that first series,” West coach Greg Vaughan said. “It speaks to what our whole team is. We’re a very aggressive team all around, special teams, offense and defense and that’s what we’re trying to build.”

West hosts Holt next Saturday afternoon.
