By the Numbers 2019: Week 8 in Review
From big rushing performances by Traverse City Central and Pickford to milestone wins for Beaverton and Mesick, Week 8 of the 2019 high school football season in northern Michigan saw plenty of great performances.

4 – Undefeated area teams remaining. Beaverton, Johannesburg-Lewiston, Kingsley and Suttons Bay are all 8-0.
5 – Area teams that are winless entering the final week of the regular season. Fremont, Manton, Inland Lakes, Kalkaska and Bear Lake are seeking their first wins in Week 9.
6 – Rushing touchdowns by Traverse City Central in a 62-7 win over Escanaba last Friday.
8 – Area 11-player programs that can secure automatic playoff berths with a win this week. Cadillac, Charlevoix, Lake City, McBain, Newaygo, Reed City, Sault Ste. Marie and Shepherd are always seeking their sixth wins this week.
9 – Area 11-player teams punched their postseason tickets with wins last week. Traverse City West, Grant, Morley Stanwood, Houghton Lake, Ogemaw Heights, Sanford Meridian, Harbor Springs, Ludington and Traverse City St. Francis all picked up their sixth wins last week.
29 – Postseason appearances in 30 years for Traverse City St. Francis. The Gladiators earned their sixth win of 2019 with a 61-7 victory over Kalkaska last Friday.
52 – Total points allowed by Beaverton through eight games this season. Opponents are averaging just 6.5 points per game against the Beavers.
518 – Team rushing yards for Pickford in a 54-28 win over defending Division 2 8-player champion Rapid River last Friday.
1972 – The last season Mesick won an outright conference championship prior to Friday’s 74-0 win over Bear Lake. The Bulldogs finished their West Michigan D League campaign at 6-0.
1989 – Beaverton’s last outright Jack Pine Conference title prior to Friday’s 42-0 win over Gladwin. The Beavers finished their Jack Pine season at 6-0.
2006 – The last time Alpena beat Big North Conference foe Petoskey prior to Friday’s 18-15 victory over the Northmen.
