Veteran TC Central Girls Cross Country Eyes State Title
TRAVERSE CITY – The postseason for many fall high school sports is quickly approaching, and the Traverse City Central girls cross country program is just one team hoping to add to its trophy case.
With three runner-up finishes and the 2008 MHSAA Division I Lower Peninsula state championship to their credit, the Trojans are ranked third in the latest MichiganCrossCountry.com state poll.
Central returns its entire lineup from last year’s team that finished fourth at the state finals.
“We had talked about it a lot last season,” Central senior Sidney Carrigan said. “We thought that maybe we could do something, like maybe one or two at States, and it just didn’t come together that day, but we came back hungry.”
“We all agree we haven’t seen our best performance yet,” added Central coach Lisa Taylor. “Hopefully that’s going to come when it really needs to, on November 2 (state finals).”
The Trojans will compete at the Big North Conference championships in Gaylord on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
