Forest Area Marching Band Performs at Ford Field

DETROIT – As the 2019 high school football season comes to a close this weekend, the Forest Area High School marching band performed one final time on Friday as honorary Glen Lake Lakers.

With Glen Lake playing in the MHSAA Division 6 state final against Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central, the Forest Area marching band, as the only band in attendance for the game, performed the national anthem and in the Glen Lake stands.

The Warrior marching band first performed at a Glen Lake game several weeks ago after Forest Area canceled its varsity season following the second week of the 2019 season.

With Forest Area left without a football team and with Glen Lake not having a marching band, the two sides came together once again at the state’s biggest stage.

“This has been wild,” Forest Area Community Schools band director Brandon Deike said. “It’s been a whirlwind. A lot of this stuff has been very last minute, like we’ve got two days so let’s make this happen. It’s been a real big roller coaster, and we just keep loading up and going and seeing what happens.

“We’re a small school and we all really know each other well, and I think that helps. Our parents are involved, the community is involved and we all just kind of pick up and go with it. It’s been crazy, and we’re all Lakers today.”
