Gaylord St. Mary Cruises Past Pellston in Playoff Opener

PELLSTON – Gaylord St. Mary opened its postseason run with a dominate 48-6 win over Pellston in an 8-player Division 1 pre-regional on Friday.

The Snowbirds, who improved to 5-5 with the win, raced out to a 22-0 lead after the first quarter and extended their lead to 36-0 at the half.

“It feels great, I mean it’s what we wanted all season and what we’ve been working all season for,” St. Mary senior Brady Hunter said. “It feels great to finally accomplish it second round of playoffs. We were ready to fight hard and we did. We executed great and ran our plays great.”

With the loss, Pellston ends its historic season at 8-2. The Hornets posted their first winning season since 1995 this year and made their first-ever playoff appearance.

St. Mary will now travel to Suttons Bay (10-0) next week for the regional championship. Suttons Bay handed Brimley a 36-14 loss on Friday.
