Glen Lake Holds off Late Harrison Rally for District Title

MAPLE CITY – Glen Lake held off a late Harrison rally for a 38-30 victory in a Division 6 district final on Friday.

The Lakers (10-1) held a 7-0 lead after the opening quarter and extended their lead to 17-8 at the half and 32-8 after three quarters en route to their first district title since 2016.

“Man it feels so good. I mean these kids worked so hard for this,” Glen Lake coach Jerry Angers said. “I think the biggest thing is we just continued to fight. We knew they were going to be a tough football team and our game against Kingsley this year really helped us with that team and that’s why our defense played so much better. Kingsley showed us a lot of things that we needed to work on and we worked on it and did a great job with it.”

Harrison, which was seeking its first-ever district championship, concludes its year at 6-5.

Glen Lake will now face the winner of Saturday’s Calumet-Menominee district final for a regional title next week.
