Road to the Dome: Suttons Bay, Colon Set to Clash in Marquette
MARQUETTE – Suttons Bay will vie for its first championship in program history Saturday as it takes on Colon in the MHSAA 8-player Division 1 state championship at Northern Michigan University’s Superior Dome Saturday morning.
The Norsemen (12-0) are making their first state finals appearance since reaching the 2004 Division 6 final while Colon (12-0) is making history with its first-ever title game appearance.
Suttons Bay recorded its first 12-win campaign since 2006 and third in program history this year. The Norsemen collected playoff wins over Brimley (36-14), Gaylord St. Mary (36-30) and Kingston (45-14) to reach this point.
Colon rolled through its three previous postseason opponents, picking up wins over Camden-Frontier (60-12), Martin (56-12) and defending Division 1 state champion Morrice (27-8) in last week’s semifinal.
And there they go! Suttons Bay is headed to Marquette for the 8-player state championship against Colon.

“They have speed and strength,” Suttons Bay senior Lucas Mikesell said. “We’ve worked on all the stuff that they do. We’ve put in some new plays, so it should be a really good game.”
Saturday’s game from the Superior Dome kicks off at 11 a.m.
