Stellar Performance By Chippewas Rolling NIU
MT. PLEASANT – The Central Michigan Chippewas have been dominant this year at Kelly/Shorts Stadium, but not much could top Saturday’s performance.
They got off to a quick start, scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter alone. That lead to a 38-0 lead at halftime, the most a team has scored in the first half of a game since 2006.
CMU performed well on both sides of the ball. Offensively, they racked up a season-high 615 yards and they did not commit any turnovers. Defensively, they forced four turnovers and limited NIU running back Tre Harbison to 17 yards on 10 carries.
The Chippewas move to 6-4 on the season and are now bowl eligible. They are 5-0 at home for the first time since 2009, when they won the MAC Championship.
Next for CMU, they head to division-leading Ball State on Nov. 16.
