Under the direction of first-year head coach Jim McElwain, Central Michigan recorded the biggest turnaround in the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2019.
After going 1-11 and posting its worst season in program history in 2018, the Chippewas rebounded to go 8-5 and win its first Mid-American Conference West Division title in outright fashion since 2009.
CMU would face Miami (Ohio) in the MAC championship game at Ford Field in Detroit on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, falling 26-21.
The Chippewas would then take on San Diego State in the New Mexico Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019.
