Cadillac’s Apfel Preps For Olympic Trials

CADILLAC – After returning from junior nationals last month, Cadillac’s Abraham Apfel is back in the pool and continuing to work towards new goals.

The senior at Cadillac High School, who also just recently signed his letter of intent to swim at Virginia Tech, is now training to make it at the Olympic trials in June.

His best event is the backstroke and he knows what he needs to do to qualify for those trials.

“Right now I have to drop about a second and a half of my best event to get the cut and hopefully we can go,” said Apfel. “It would mean the world to me, I’ve been working for 8 or 9 years at swimming and it would just be amazing to cap it off right before going into college with a great, great meet.”

Apfel currently trains around 20 hours a week to reach his goal.

The Olympic Trials are June 21-28.
