Fremont Captures Division 3 District Championship

NEWAYGO – Division 3 seventh-ranked Fremont captured a district championship with a 45-20 win over Grant on Wednesday.

“This is really meaningful,” Fremont coach Craig Zeerip said. “This has been a goal from the team from day one. The kids have really worked hard.  They’ve been thinking about this all year-long, and building towards this. But we knew coming in that we’d have a couple of tough opponents. Hats off to Tri County and to Grant. This was a eally good district, and it was really exciting and nerve-wracking.”

Earlier in the evening, Fremont held on for a 39-37 victory over Tri County while Grant rolled to a 66-12 win over tournament host Newaygo.

Fremont will now face Muskegon Orchard View in a regional semifinal next Wednesday. The winner will take on either Comstock Park or Wyoming Godwin Heights in the regional final.
