Hart Wins 1st Regional Championship Since 1990

ROSCOMMON – The Hart wrestling program secured a spot in its first state quarterfinal since 1990 with a 49-19 win over Whittemore-Prescott in a Division 4 regional final on Wednesday.

“A lot of them won’t ever get a chance to do it,” Hart coach Brad Altland said about his team advancing to the state’s biggest stage. “It’s a big deal. Going forward, it’s a big deal for our younger kids. I don’t know if you saw, our middle school program, they didn’t practice today. They came up to watch us because it takes a lot of people to make a program. Going forward, it seems like we’re heading in the right direction.”

Earlier in the evening Hart opened with a 78-6 semifinal win over Mancelona while Whittemore-Prescott handed Roscommon a 48-25 loss.

Hart now awaits to hear its quarterfinal opponent. Next week’s state quarterfinal pairings will be announced on Sunday. The state finals will take place at Kalamazoo’s Wings Event Center next Friday and Saturday.
