Sault Ste. Marie Boys, Girls Post Runner-Up Finishes at U.P. Finals

MARQUETTE – The Sault Ste. Marie boys and girls swimming and diving programs took home runner-up finishes at the 2020 MHSAA Upper Peninsula finals this past Saturday at the YMCA of Marquette County.

On the girls side, Marquette won the event with 377 points, as Sault Ste. Marie came home in second with 300. Rudyard was eighth with 67 points.

Sault Ste. Marie’s 200-yard free relay team of Anna Hildebrand, Aliah Robertson, Julie Innerebner and Joanne Arbic came home in first and set a new U.P. finals record with a time of 1:54.26. The same team also set a new U.P finals record with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:42.00).

Robertson also won the 200-yard individual medley (2:11.73) and broke her own U.P. finals record in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.50).

Arbic set a new finals mark by winning the 50-yard freestyle (24.49) and took home top honors in the 100-yard freestyle (55.66).

Brianna Jones was first in diving with 174.95 points.

On the boys side, Marquette also took home top honors with 344 points, as Sault Ste. Marie finished with 227. Rudyard was ninth with 36 points.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Morgan Burd, Conner Habusta, Andrew Innerebner and Cameron Bauers finished in first (1:50.89) and took home first place in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:36.64).

Burd established a new team record in the 100-yard backstroke (55.33) and won the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.06).

Innerebner won both the 50-yard freestyle (22.22) and set a new U.P. finals record in the 100-yard butterfly (52.63).
