St. Francis Rolls Past TC Central in Pink Out Game

TRAVERSE CITY – Traverse City St. Francis handed Traverse City Central a 53-35 defeat on Tuesday.

The Gladiators (8-3) held an 11-10 lead after the opening quarter and extended its lead to 25-19 by the half.

Tuesday’s game was Central’s fifth annual Pink Out Game. A silent auction was held throughout the night to benefit a scholarship fund in honor of 1997 Central graduate Abby Mahan Gartland who passed away in 2015. The fund was started by Central JV coach and former teammate of Gartland’s Sara Dennis-Parker.

“She certainly deserves to be remembered, and I definitely wanted to keep her name in front of young people, to be able to have a good reason to talk about her, and all of the good that she brought to this world while she was here,” Dennis-Parker said.

Through the Grand Traverse Community Foundation, the scholarship has been awarded each of the last four year’s at Central’s honors convocation.

Dennis-Parker says that she hopes an additional $4,000 that be raised to make the scholarship fund an endowment.

St. Francis travels to East Jordan on Wednesday while Central (2-13) returns to conference play at home against Petoskey on Friday.
