Traverse City Ties for First in Nordic Ski Championships

TRAVERSE CITY — Hickory Hills hosted the 2020 Michigan High School Nordic Ski Championships, with several local athletes taking home titles.

Traverse City tied Copper Country for first place as an overall team with 380 total points. The Traverse City boys team won the title with 195 points. Traverse City girls (185 points) finished in second place behind Copper Country (194).

Here’s a list of  athletes that placed in the top three in each event for both boys and girls:

Boys Freestyle Sprint:

1st – Joseph Thuente, Traverse City

2nd – Ryan Miller, Traverse City

3rd – Joe Wood, Copper Country

Girls Freestyle Sprint: 

1st – Ericka Asmus, Superiorland Ski Club

2nd – Arielle Jean, Traverse City

3rd – Annie Paulson, Traverse City

Boys Classic 5K:

1st – Joe Wood, Copper Country

2nd – Joseph Thuente, Traverse City

3rd – Mike Fraley, Copper Country

Girls Classic 5K:

1st – Arielle Jean, Traverse City

2nd – Autumn Eles, Copper Country

3rd – Annie Paulson, Traverse City

Boys Freestyle 5K:

1st – Joe Wood, Copper Country

2nd – Joseph Thuente, Traverse City

3rd – Cyrus Hamlin, Copper Country

Girls Freestyle 5K: 

1st – Arielle Jean, Traverse City
