Ferris State Men Fall To Northern Michigan in GLIAC Quarterfinals
BIG RAPIDS – Despite a game-high 32 points from junior Walt Kelser, the Ferris State men’s basketball team fell in the final seconds to Northern Michigan, 70-69, in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal Tuesday at Jim Wink Arena.
The Bulldogs (27-6) held a 36-31 lead at the half but were outscored 17-12 over the final nine minutes of regulation.
Greg Williams joined Kelser in double figures with 18 points in 24 minutes off the bench.
Ben Wolf paced the Wildcats (13-16) with 22 points and 11 rebounds while Sam Taylor added 21 points and three boards.
Ferris State, which was the top seed in the GLIAC Tournament, will now await to hear if it will receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Bulldogs are ranked third in the most recent Midwest Region rankings. The top eight teams in each region receive tournament bids. The tournament bracket is released on Sunday.
