Grand Canyon Parts Ways with T.C. Native Majerle
PHOENIX — Grand Canyon University announced that they have parted ways with men’s basketball head coach Dan Majerle on Thursday. The Traverse City native coached the team for seven years.
In a press release, the GCU president Brian Mueller said, “We have made the decision to move in a new direction with our men’s basketball program. We wish Coach Majerle the best of luck in his future endeavors.”
The Lopes went 13-17 overall and 8-8 in conference play this year. In his seven years there, Majerle led the team to a 136-99 overall record.
Majerle played college basketball at Central Michigan University. He ranks fifth in MHSAA history in points scored in a season when he scored 926 points in the 1982-83 season for Traverse City, averaging 37.0 points per game that year.
