Tackling TS Golf Classic Ending

Kingsley football coach Tim Wooer and his family made the decision earlier this year to end their annual Tackling TS Golf Classic after more than 13 years.

Started by Wooer and his family in 2007, the event raised funds and awareness of Tuberous sclerosis – otherwise known as TS – a genetic disorder that causes tumors throughout the body. Wooer’s son is affected by the disease.

Held at Traverse City’s Elmbrook Golf Course in June, the event featured an 18-hole, four-person scramble, cart, lunch, goodie bag as well as prizes, drawings and a silent auction, headlined by college and professional sports memorabilia. Money raised from the golf outing went towards research and children and their families.

“We just want to say thank you to everybody that did support and everybody that made that possible,” Wooer said. “We were thinking it was probably going to be a four- to five-year deal and it ended up being 13 or 14 years and we made over $200,000 over that time for research and kids and families who really struggled.”

Wooer says money has been set aside to continue donating to research.
