Senior Spotlight: Sault Ste. Marie’s O’Dell Finds Right Fit at Aquinas

MISportsNow is putting the spotlight on northern Michigan high school senior student-athletes who had their seasons cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Like many senior spring athletes, Sault Ste. Marie’s Madison O’Dell saw her final high school season canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

O’Dell has found a new home to continue her softball career, though, and will head to Aquinas College in the fall.

A four-year starter for the Blue Devils, O’Dell earned All-Straits Area Conference and all-district honors as a utility player. She batted .300 as a sophomore and .388 as a junior.

“I was really trying to look for a smaller school that had the smaller class sizes, because I just didn’t really want a huge university or anything like that,” O’Dell said. “I like a smaller campus and stuff. I met their coach during the summer and I just really liked him. He was super nice and just like fun and kind of laid back and I like that about him so that was one of the big factors into going there.”

O’Dell joins an NAIA Aquinas program that went 33-18 in 2019, including going 16-6 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference
