Senior Spotlight: Charlevoix’s Lentz to Run for Hope College

MISportsNow is putting the spotlight on northern Michigan high school senior student-athletes who had their seasons cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As Charlevoix senior runner Benjamin Lentz entered his final high school season, he didn’t have much interest in continuing his running career at the college level.

Ben Xc 2That all changed two months ago as Lent’z senior track and field campaign was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

With his final season canceled, Lentz developed a desire to continue running, and last month committed to Hope College and its cross county and track and field programs.

A member of Charlevoix’s baseball team as well, Lentz is looking forward to seeing how much he can improve at the collegiate level.

“It’s very exciting,” Lentz said. “I just felt like I had more to prove. I feel like I never had closure, so now I’ll be able to go out there and prove myself. I haven’t been a year-round runner. In the spring, baseball was my primary, so I wasn’t really training a lot for track. I feel like once I turn into a year-round runner, I think there’s a lot more in the tank for me.”
