Senior Spotlight: Marion’s Sutten Caps off Prep Career as Valedictorian

MISportsNow is putting the spotlight on northern Michigan high school senior student-athletes who had their seasons cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Marion senior four-sport student-athlete Alex Sutten enjoyed plenty of success on the court and on the gridiron, leading the Eagles to three straight football playoff appearances and a conference title in 2017.

Sutten’s greatest success though came in the classroom where he was named the valedictorian of the Class of 2020.

Sutten is heading off to Ferris State in the fall, with plans of following in his mother’s footsteps and becoming a teacher.

“My mom’s a teacher. My brother is also going to be a teacher. All the great teachers I had over the years have really helped me decide that that’s the way I want to go with my life,” Sutten said.

Sutten is leaning towards teaching social studies or physical education and has dreams of coaching one day.
