MISportsNow is putting the spotlight on northern Michigan high school senior student-athletes who had their seasons cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Mt. Pleasant senior and 1,000-point scorer Mason Wojtusik helped lead the Oilers to 72 wins over his four-year varsity career, including a 20-win campaign this past winter that ended abruptly because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Wojtusik had made college plans to stay in town and take his talents to Mid Michigan College and its men’s basketball program.

The decision reunites Wojtusik with former high school teammate Peyton Fountain and his AAU teammate and Beal City senior Logan Chilman.

On top of reuniting with teammates, Wojtusik has known Mid Michigan coach Kaleb House for several years.

“I’ve known Coach House over at Mid (Michigan College) since I was a little kid,” Wojtusik said. “He was the coach at Beal City High School. I would go to their camps and he works with my aunt. I always loved being around him and I’ve been around their program for a while. So it just was the right decision for me.”

Wojtusik joins a Mid Michigan program that has recorded five consecutive winning campaigns. The Lakers went 19-10 in 2019-20.
