Senior Spotlight: Newberry’s Brown Taking Long Snapping Skills to Minot State

MISportsNow is putting the spotlight on northern Michigan high school senior student-athletes who had their seasons cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Newberry senior Steven Brown knew he wanted to play college football someday, but with his size, he had doubts of making that dream a reality.

That was until Brown learned how to long snap.

Steve Brown 2Brown has been working on his long snapping form and his hard work has paid off as he’ll join NCAA Division II Minot (Minn.) State in the fall.

“Working a lot with Rubio Long Snapping, I wanted to pursue that a lot because I’m not the biggest kid there is and it’s the best fit for me for long snapping,” Brown said. “Going to a couple of his camps, a couple of college camps. I ended up reaching out to a bunch of schools and Minot ended up being it.”

Brown says it had been a dream to play college football since the sixth grade.

He joins a Minot State program that is coming off a 3-8 season in 2019.
