Sault Ste. Marie Native Roque Named USA Hockey Women’s Player of the Year
Sault Ste. Marie native and University of Wisconsin senior Abby Roque has been named USA Hockey’s Bob Allen Women’s Player of the Year.
Awarded to the top American-born women’s hockey player, Roque is the second collegiate player to win the award over the last three years and joins a list that includes former Olympians Brianna Decker, Hilary Knight and Meghan Duggan.
“Winning this award is truly an honor,” Roque said statement. “There have been so many amazing players who have won this award, and even being considered in their category is so special to me.”

The 2020 Western Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Year and a former WCHA Rookie of the Year, Roque, a center, played on the USA Hockey senior team in December in Team USA’s Rivalry Series against Team Canada.
Roque ended her collegiate career this winter with 170 career points, 114 assists, a +136 plus/minus, 21 power-play goals and 15 game-winning goals.
