MISportsNow is putting the spotlight on northern Michigan high school senior student-athletes who had their seasons cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Alpena senior twin sisters Allie and Abbie Funk have been playing together on the softball field their whole lives, and they’ll continue their softball careers together at Spring Arbor in the fall.

Both sisters had successful high school careers, with Abbie earning all-state honors as a sophomore and junior while Allie took home all-region accolades.

The twins are happy to have another chance to play and experience part of life together.

“We both wanted to go to a school together and we both wanted to play softball together,” Allie Funk said. “Spring Arbor offered us both a scholarship to play there. We just loved the campus. We loved the coaches. It was just really welcoming.”

“We’re talking to other incoming freshmen from Spring Arbor,” added Abbie Funk. “They’re like freaking out about like their roommates. Me and Allie are like, oh, we’ve got it easy. We don’t have to worry about that at all.”

While the sisters are going different routes on the majors, they will be rooming together.
