MISportsNow is putting the spotlight on northern Michigan high school senior student-athletes who had their seasons cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Farwell senior three-sport athlete Mia Fetzer is set to continue her track and field career at Lansing Community College in the fall.

A two-time MHSAA Lower Peninsula track and field state finals qualifier, Fetzer finished 12th at the 2019 Division 3 finals and had a goal of finishing in the top six at this year’s finals prior to the coronavirus pandemic forcing the cancellation of the spring season.

Fetzer had good reason to believe she would improve upon her 2019 finals finish. Fetzer worked on boosting her strength after taking up powerlifting.

“They’re actually a really good track team,” Fetzer said. “They’re trying to fill out their track team because right now they’re really just distant runners. But they’re really try to fill it out and I’m like okay, let’s just do it. I want to throw. My friend lives here. I can live with her. So we’ll just do it here.”

In addition to her shot put and powerlifting endeavors, Fetzer also played softball and volleyball at Farwell.
