Senior Spotlight: Fremont’s Campbell Joins Storied Grace Christian Program

MISportsNow is putting the spotlight on northern Michigan high school senior student-athletes who had their seasons cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.

After capping off a strong prep career at Fremont, senior Tristan Campbell is taking his talents to Grace Christian University and its men’s basketball team in the fall.

A 6-foot-9 forward, Campbell averaged 13 points and nine rebounds last season, and didn’t know Grace Christian, a Grand Rapids area college, was recruiting him prior to Grace Christian’s coaching staff approaching him at one of his games.

Once Campbell attended a Grace Christian game and learned more about the program’s history, he knew it was a good fit.

Tristan Campbell Grace Vo“They’re (Grace Christian) really like talented,” Campbell said. “They’ve won six or seven out of 10 of the last championships. They travel all over the place. They play tons of different competition like D2 schools, like Ferris (State) or GVSU. I’m really looking forward to the competition.”

Campbell joins a Grace Christian program that is a small-school powerhouse, having won six National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association national championships since 2006 and a national runner-up finish. Grace Christian’s last national championship was in 2019.

The Tigers went 20-11 in 2019-20 and had qualified for the national tournament prior to the coronavirus pandemic.
