Big First Inning Propels Pit Spitters Past Resorters

TRAVERSE CITY – The Traverse City Pit Spitters plated six runs in the first inning en route to a 13-3 win over the Great Lakes Resorters in Northwoods League Northern Michigan Pod play at Turtle Creek Stadium Wednesday.

Chris Monroe drove in three runs on two hits and scored twice for the Pit Spitters (5-1).

Spencer Schwellenbach went 3-for-5 with an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases while Evan Maday went 2-for-4 with a run and a pair of stolen bases. Gray Betts drove in a pair of runs, going 1-for-4 with two runs scored.

Pat Hohlfeld earned the win in relief, striking out four while allow one hit and a walk over three innings.

Great Lakes starter James Rogers was chased after just 2/3 innings Wednesday after allowing six runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out one.

The Resorters (1-5) committed six errors in the contest.

The two teams will square off again at 7:05 p.m. Thursday at Turtle Creek Stadium.
